PROBLEM – IS SMOKING BAD FOR MY COMPUTER?

We all know the effects of which smoking can have on the human body.

Remember the old gym class health videos?

Well smoking is actually not good for your computer either. The symptoms may be minor at first but if not maintained can cause disaster. Here’s what smoke can do to a computer.

  1. Smoke particles from smoking can actually get trapped in a hard drive, between the head and platters.
  2. The chemicals from smoke can leave a film on monitors, keyboards and even a mouse. Ever wonder why those beige computers looked yellow?
  3. Smoke can land on the optics of DVD or CD drives and cause trouble reading disks.
  4. Dust! Already a headache with non-smoker computers, however, the dust from a smokers computer can become heavily trapped on fans and heat syncs.

SOLUTION(S) – or at least what I would recommend!

Well besides the obvious (quit smoking, at least while operating your computer), keep your fans and heatsyncs free from dust would avoid the build up of smoke riddled dust. A simple air dust can would help keep you dust free. By simply opening the side of your computer you can blast dust bunnies away for good. It is recommended to turn your computer off when you do any type of work from within your computer. Static is the enemy!

So there you have it, smoking is not good for your computer. Well at least from what I’ve seen, it’s not recommended.
